About Us
“Peglets” are the creation of Lynda Tse.
Lynda works out of her home studio in the seaside suburb of Seatoun, in Wellington, New Zealand, where she lives with her husband and two children.
Lynda is a trained early childhood educator who has had a long career as a kindergarten teacher, both in New Zealand and overseas. She has also worked as a florist, theatre props manager, set designer, and freelance decorator for special events and functions.
The creative arts, especially musical theatre, have always been close to her heart, whether performing on stage in amateur theatre productions or working backstage on props and set design. Lynda’s theatrical talent is expressed through the artistry and creativity of her Peglet designs.
Peglets were born out of a love for traditional arts and crafts. Based on the humble peg doll, Peglets combine the long lost arts of craft making with contemporary artistry, innovation and creativity.
The latest generation of Peglets evolved from many years of making peg dolls, initially for school fairs and fundraisers, and then at the request of family and friends.
Early in 2007 Lynda took her work to a new level by launching Peglets on the local market, with outstanding success. In August 2007, Lynda was commissioned by the Royal New Zealand Ballet to produce a line of Peglets as merchandise for their 2007 season of “Cinderella”.
The “Cinderella Rose Peglets” sold like hot cakes and Peglets were labeled an overnight success!
Soon after, Lynda took Peglets global by launching the Peglets.com website and listing selected Peglets on the popular online auction site Ebay. Within the first week she had already dispatched Peglets to buyers inAsia and South Africa.
Peglets can be purchased on Ebay - search for “Peglets” - or by contacting us by email. or through this website.
Based on the humble peg doll, Peglets are works of art, hand crafted and hand painted by designer, Lynda Tse.
I personally design and make each Peglet, drawing on inspiration from many sources to come up with each, unique design.
The peg itself is made of wood. The body is painted in skin tones. Then the faces are hand painted on and the whole peg is varnished. The moveable arms are then attached and the doll is ready to be clothed.
The clothing and costumes are made from a number of different fabrics and materials. Many of the fabrics are retro or antique, which I have personally sourced from antique shops, fabric shops and flea markets in New Zealand and overseas.
Some materials and fabrics have been gifted to me by friends and relatives - some of my most treasured fabrics are many generations old. I personally make all the clothes, I refuse to buy ready-made doll clothes for my Peglets.
Many of the Peglets come with their own unique accessories. I make these accessories from different materials, including modelling clay, beads, shells etc. Like the clothing, everything is handcrafted by myself - it is against my policy to buy ready-made clothes or accessories for the Peglets.
For custom orders, I am happy to incorporate special items or pieces of fabric which may have sentimental value into your Peglet design, whenever possible.
The hair is made from a natural mohair fibre and sourced from a local manufacturer in Carterton, just north of Wellington, where I live.
Each Peglet has a beaded loop for hanging on a hook, tree or door handle. Some designs also come with a stand so that the doll can be displayed free standing.
Most of my dolls are One of a Kind designs, but I sometimes make Limited Edition series of themed Peglets.
Of course, if you commission a Peglet for a special occasion such as a wedding or christening, you will be getting your very own, unique design.
Each Peglet comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
